Attorney Jay S. Finnecy graduated from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 1995 and was admitted to the California Bar after passing the Bar Exam on his first attempt. Mr. Finnecy completed his undergraduate education at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
Prior to opening his criminal defense practice, Mr. Finnecy worked as a prosecutor for the San Diego County District Attorney's Office for six years. During that time, Mr. Finnecy handled all types of cases including arson, burglary, driving under the influence, domestic violence, robbery, narcotics sales and trafficking, assault, rape, child molest, thefts, and three-strikes. During his career as a prosecutor Mr. Finnecy developed close working relationships with judges and prosecutors throughout San Diego County--this unique experience benefits Mr. Finnecy's clients in many ways.
Mr. Finnecy is a member of the faculty at Mira Costa Community College in Oceanside, California where he teaches courses in Criminal Procedure, Juvenile Law, and Evidence. Mr. Finnecy appeared on both KFMB AM760 and KOGO AM600 as an expert legal commentator during the infamous David Westerfield trial.
Mr. Finnecy is a member of the San Diego County Bar Association, the Bar Association of North San Diego County (BANSDC), the National Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys (NACDL), and the California Public Defenders Association (CPDA). Mr. Finnecy has specialized training in the areas of driving under the influence, narcotics and narcotics investigation, search warrants, arson, evidence collection, sexual assault, and three-strikes sentencing.
Mr. Finnecy practices in all San Diego County Courts (including Vista, San Diego, South Bay, El Cajon, Juvenile, and Traffic) as well as Riverside, Orange, San Bernardino and Los Angeles Counties.
